WHEN THE EARTH CEASED TO BE THE CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSE COPERNICUS RELATED SOURCES IN THE STATE ARCHIVES

The exhibition was prepared by the Polish State Archives on the occasion of the 550th anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus. The exhibition presents the life and achievements of the brilliant Polish astronomer. It features nearly 100 carefully selected archival materials stored in the State Archives in Poland.

At the exhibition you will trace the childhood, youth and career of the famous astronomer. You will get to know his family. You will look at monuments, memorials and souvenirs of the creator of the heliocentric model of the Solar System. You will see how Copernican anniversaries used to be celebrated. You will also look at the most interesting images of Copernicus in culture and art.

You will be accompanied by unique traces of Nicolaus Copernicus’ activities – prints of books, documents and letters from the 15th and 16th centuries, engravings and photographs, reprints from the press, albums, posters, postage stamps and placards and flyers.

The exhibition is realized as part of the entire network of State Archives in Poland under the direction of the State Archives in Toruń in cooperation with the State Archives in Malbork, Olsztyn and Gdansk.
